Baby!

Announcement! Phil and I are expecting our next child this November!

We've been not-not-telling people for a few weeks, but between an emergency room visit and puking in the in-laws' bathroom while lead renovation was going on at our house, this pregnancy was pretty much impossible to keep secret from the start. I'm now at the beginning of the second trimester, and I've been entirely wretched for the last couple of months. I'm only now starting to feel like I can do anything other than cling to the couch in the desperate hope that if I hold perfectly still, I won't puke.

We don't know the gender yet, but I do have an interesting Science! Fact! about this little one. Remember how I had an ectopic pregnancy and lost one of my fallopian tubes? Right. Guess which side the egg for this pregnancy came from? That's right. The one that's not hooked up to anything. Apparently, fallopian tubes can move a little; they have long, moving tendrils that entice the egg into the tube. My tendrils were extra enticing. That or the egg quantum tunneled. You know. One or the other.

Hooray for quantum baby!

You know, this suggests all kinds of names for her/him based on the greats of quantum mechanics and particle physics: Marie, Lise, Niels, Max, Paul, Wolfgang, Erwin, Werner, Satyendra....

Yay baby! I hope the much-vaunted second-trimester absence of nausea kicks in.

P.

I was just thinking of you and your first, wondering how things were going ... and now you're working on number 2?!

Wow.

Good luck, etc and such.

Wow.

Time goes by amazingly fast, doesn't it?

Congratulations! And how can you tell which side the egg came from? I didn't know that was possible!

How to tell which side.... Since I had a previous ectopic pregnancy, I get an early ultrasound to make sure everything's in the right place. They check the ovaries, too, and whichever side ovulated still has the corpus luteum, which shows on the ultrasound. Biology is creepy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpus_luteum

Creepy but nifty! I learned about the corpus luteum when I took anatomy (at least I think that was when), but that was long enough ago I'd completely forgotten about it. Cool!

Fallopian tubes sound an awful lot like some sort of sea creature...floating around, with tentacle thingies reaching...reaching...

Anyhow, I'm actually posting to offer you free not-quite-baby stuff.

We have some clothes that Ayden has outgrown - which are too big for C right now but someday won't be and...hey...free clothes! They're mostly about 4T to 6/"small" size.

We've also graduated to a booster seat for Ayden in both of our vehicles rather than a car seat, which means that we're getting rid of Ayden's old car seat and you're welcome to it. He's really been a bit too big for the car seat for a while. I don't know what I'd say the appropriate age is for the car seat, but I think basically they're ready as soon as you no longer keep them in the little bassinette carry thingie type of carseat? So I don't know if the timing will work or not, but I was thinking that *just maybe* by the time #2 comes along, C could graduate to a car seat (like ours) and you wouldn't need to buy a 2nd infant car seat? I can ask Mike when he started using it with Ayden...that was before my time.

I also have some duplos - those are the bigger legos meant for younger kids.

Last but not least, I cannot believe this didn't sell at my garage sale, but I have one of those older gen bikes that you hook up to the TV and the kid pedals to mini video games that teach them spelling and numbers and stuff. I think it's called a Smart Cycle and we have 2 games to go with it. You can still buy smart cycle games in the store for newer model bikes that I think will work with the one we have if you like it and want to add more later. They are for approx. 3-6 yrs old/"pre school" age kids.

Let me know if you're interested in this stuff and if so, I will be happy to drop it off sometime for you. Otherwise, I'm donating it, but I'd rather give it to someone I know who can use it than the good will.
