It's life, Jim, but not as we know it.
Compadres!
Let me tell you about my life these days.
Wait.
There is too much. I will sum up.
Two branching futures:
One in which I do not work at all for many moons...but stay home and work on my first novel.
And one in which I call back the people at the job I just ended and say I would be willing to work for them permanently.
Why, you ask?
Well, because my man will find out within the next week whether he is hired or fired. Yes, it's really that simple. They finally decided that they shouldn't string him along as a contract temp any more, so they are making the decision (within the next week) about whether the position really needs a full-time employee to handle. Rowr!
If they refuse to offer above a certain dollar amount, he will turn the job down and begin looking for a new job. This will most likely entail his quitting. If they decide they don't need a permanent employee, he will begin looking for a new job. See above.
The project I have been working on ends on Friday. We have the Fourth off, of course. All the others are being sent home on Friday. Me they want in again next Monday to help deal with some of the tech work. They like me. They would really like to hire me. I like the people. I like the flexible hours. I like the informal dress code. I like the location. I like having money.
The job is hell.
On the other hand, I can now claim to have "leadership experience" because I somehow ended up being the person managing the project. Shrug. Don't know how that happened. I was the youngest person working, for goodness' sake! Guess it's that ENTJ personality thing again. (Yes, all the job guidance tests suggested CEO of a multinational corporation as an appropriate match for my talents. Excuse me while I buff my nails.)
Monetarily, we're doing much better than we were when I started working. By the time we're through, all our debts will be paid off except for student loans. What debt did we have? Well, credit card bills slowly mounting from the minutiae of life as well as that road trip to Wisconsin...and a brand spanking new computer with an interest-free loan if paid off within one year of purchase. I might even have enough money left over to buy some new threads.
Shiny metallic threads, by preference. White cotton thread really just looks like string.
My drinking, smoking, and sleeping habits are much more in control than they were when I began work (Well, aside from the previous post or two). A regular schedule will do that to 'ya.
I was working 2+ hours of overtime four days a week, plus going in on weekends, for the last two weeks. My man became very cranky because he did not see me as much. So did the cat. She took to yowling and walking on my face in the morning so she could spend more time with me.
This week I have not been working overtime (well, except the weekend thing). This has made me much more sane. And I will get holiday pay!
I have not been working on writing or photography or my website or my livejournal or my house or my laundry as much as I would like. This will change, beginning Tuesday.
