The Difficulty of Defining Beauty

Everybody has their own particular definition of beauty, and it is a remarkably difficult thing to pin down. From a movies perspective, my definition is made of those directed by people like Wong Kar-Wai, Guillermo Del Toro, and Jeunet. Just watched 2046....

Park Chan Wook's revenge triligy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengence, Old Boy, Lady Vengence) is VERY good and very pretty. The credit sequence at the end of Lady Vengence almost made me cry.

I've been informed that I can't watch it....

I have sort of an allergic reaction to rape scenes in movies, etc.--they make me extra-cranky and prone to insisting that the entire male half of the species is evil and bad. The Mad Scientist prefers me when I'm my "normal" cranky self.

I do as well actually. I don't remember a rape scene in Oldboy or Lady Vengeance; if there was I guess it didn't bother me. They're far from uplifting, but very good. I haven't actually seen Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance yet.

Mmm! Now there's an idea! I'll have to check and see if I can just watch the last two--the trilogy was on my "to watch" list for a bit, until the Mad Scientist emphatically nixed it.
