What I Did Today

In case you were wondering, today I
* updated my resume
* updated my LinkedIn profile

* looked at all matching Monster.com jobs, MCNC and Springboard for the Arts job postings, as well as U of M, St. Thomas (no tuition reimbursement for 3 years for part-timers?), and Macalester.
* applied to 3 jobs

I actually find my resume to be more impressive than I was expecting. Well, maybe not so much. I've been doing job hunt stuff all day. Perspective is *gone*.

Check the first line of the Bush job description. I think you meant thurough, not through.

Good luck. If I see anything up your alley, I'll send it your way. I'm on a couple of job list and such as well, just out of habit.

You mean thorough? :)

Nope, actually I did mean through.

And thanks.

did you have individual responsibility for anything at bush? were you part of any decision making processes? or did you create anything (processes or whatever)? right now it sounds a lot like support and being told what to do, and I know the job was more than that.

Oh, good point. Hmm. Now how to fit that on in a small amount of space....

[identity profile] susanofstohelit.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
oh, I'd also move nightowl up. put that at the top for business resumes, and bush at the top for nonprofit. even though you don't like it, it sounds the most impressive and has the most managerial experience.

[identity profile] cloudscudding.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I was doing it chronologically. Pondering.

[identity profile] susanofstohelit.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
the top three are more-or-less current, aren't they?

[identity profile] cloudscudding.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Current, yes, but when they started was years apart, and I thought it looked weird to have ones that started later being listed as if they were "earlier".

[identity profile] susanofstohelit.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't worry about that part, since none of them are bad.

also, if you're running out of space to fit this on one page, I'd drop the 2000 and earlier jobs - they're more than 7 years ago now, they don't add anything to your skills, and you don't need more than 7 years on your resume. you want the reader to focus on your good points.

Add your martial arts experience. It's interesting and makes you stand out a little more.

Do you have a cover letter? We've been looking at resumes for our Help Desk position, and if there's no cover letter it feels like we're missing a lot.

[identity profile] cloudscudding.livejournal.com 2007-07-23 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, hadn't even thought of that.

And yes, I've been writing a separate cover letter for whichever job application.
