Writing Log: MinnSpec Sunday

06/13/10, Sunday - I really need to keep recording these. I have slipped, and it hurts how I perceive my writing productivity. Which, in turn, hurts the actual productivity.
* Went to MinnSpec writing group meeting. Sat on "panel" re social media, gave critiques.
* Processed "not what we're looking for right now" rejection of "Look Back to Keep Her" from Moonlight Tuber. Why did I write a modern Orpheus myth (alluding if not retelling) borderline-thriller/crime/horror flash fiction literary piece again? Grumph. I need to remember not to write literary stories!
* Processed "Alien/Whore/Mother" passing the first cut for The Ladies of Trade Town anthology. Fingers crossed!
* Posted social media overview around a bit.

When you say you "processed" a rejection what do you mean? Do you emotionally process it? Burn it? File it? Send them presents from the cat's litter box in the mail?

I am, hmm, a little compulsive about organizing things. So I have spreadsheets. One spreadsheet tracks all my manuscripts--wordcount, current status (e.g. submitted 05/10/10 to XYZ, response by 07/10/10), places rejected from, etc. Another tracks all my submissions--date submitted, expected response time, actual response time, reaction. A third is kind of a list of all the places I want to submit a story to.

So "processed" means:
* Spreadsheet 1: Change status to "submit," add rejecting market to Rejected From cell.
* Spreadsheet 2: Add date response received, response, and change row color to neutral (I keep active subs in bright red, acceptances in green).
* Spreadsheet 3: Remove market from to-submit-to list.
