Questions from [livejournal.com profile] utilitygeek--should have done this a while ago!

What is the difference between science fiction and fantasy?
Science fiction can a) take place in the (not-immediate) future, or b) require as a plot point (or setting, but I'm more lenient than most in this) the use of some technology that may or may not exist that is used in a way it is not currently being used in.

Fantasy can a) involve magic or magical creatures, or b) take place in worlds and countries that never existed and are not science-fictional.

See also hybrids like magic realism, alternate history, and science fantasy.

What was (or is) the worst part of knee rehab?

The uncertainty. The fear that I would do something wrong while I was healing and mess it all up. Not knowing how much flexibility and strength I would get back (I still don't know).

Other than writing, what would you like to do for a living?

Photography.

Brainstorming as part of a think tank or concept-creation thing.

Making the lives and/or businesses of others run more smoothly by figuring out more efficient ways of doing things.

If you could only eat one style of food, what would it be?

Asian, probably. I don't think I could give up my stir-fry and curry.

What is something you are really, really bad at, but enjoy anyway?

Difficult to come up with something here--I tend to cut my losses if I'm not improving. Dancing? I don't think I'm that bad, but I'm certainly not "good". Martial arts? I don't think I'm in the "really, really bad" category, but it's one area where there's a huge gap between where I should be (by my standards and probably those of others) and where I am.

I believe this is one of those memes where if you want questions, you can comment and I'll ask.

Contents: Fresh Italian Red Garlic, Green Top Beets, Fennel, Snow Peas, Collard Greens, Strawberries, White Scallions, Cauliflower, Green Leaf Lettuce, Basil (choice item). Seeing the last of: strawberries. New this week: beets, fennel, collard greens.

Which huckster's pitch is it anyways?
"Sir, you're new here," a confident tenor voice said next to Leander's ear. "What do you want? I can help you. I know everyone, I know what they've got. Did you just board the ship? You need to relax? You want to gamble? Drink? Puff? You like girls? My cousin is beautiful and very friendly. See?"
Notes: I'm making an experiment for the next week with time and priorities. I got a lot more written this day. The experiment's about big boulder vs. making tomorrow easier methods, writing flow, and expanding tasks. More once I've finished the trial.

Edit: I went with Grumpy's. No minimum, no rental fee, side room with a door that closes.

So, the plans for having the bachelorette at the Chatterbox are imperiled. [livejournal.com profile] susanofstohelit, who was arranging the reservation, was only recently told that for a group our size to reserve a space, they required a minimum catering pre-order that's actually kinda large. And we weren't planning on really ordering dinner, let alone either one of us fronting that much.

So now it'll either be moved to a) another bar/restaurant that allows groups that large to reserve space without pre-ordering everything, or b) somebody's house, probably mine.

And of course, the person who was organizing this is now going out of the country, so I've gotta pick up and plan it. (Before I was only inviting folks.)

Quick--what bar/restaurants in St. Paul/Minneapolis (ideally Minneapolis) have a large space for a group of 25+, like a party room, that doesn't have a catering minimum.
