Squirrels in the Fascia
Aug. 9th, 2009 11:31 pmToday Phil poured mothballs inside after ascertaining that it was currently uninhabited, and we know exactly when the squirrel returned! I have never heard a squirrel complain that much and that loudly. It knew who was responsible, too. It went around to sit directly in front of our stairwell window, facing in, and chattered angrily at us for about an hour.
It even scared our cat out of the windowsill.
Points of Interest: Spam Whirligigs?
Jun. 2nd, 2009 11:11 pm- 10:56 Our garage gutter is filled with whirligig seeds from the maple tree. Squirrels view it as their personal buffet.

A Lovely Spring Day
Feb. 10th, 2009 10:11 pmWhen I went outside, I saw dozens of robins perching in the trees and flying in the sky. The afternoon was warm enough that I didn't need a hat or mittens. The ice was all melting. I've always heard that robins are a sign of spring, but I've never seen this many all together in my life. It was an awe-filled, magical sight. Three or four other people walked by and never even glanced up, but I saw.

Photograph: Christmas Tomatoes
Mar. 18th, 2007 11:20 pm
Planted in June. Ripened after Christmas. Strange odd fruit born of an unnatural love and unfit for human consumption. Children two and three. Though the first tomato that ripened tasted pretty delicious on a BLT!
( What was that unnatural love? )

Photograph: Empty Shell
Dec. 6th, 2006 03:32 pmFound on the shores of the Mississippi River and taken home with me. I think some wild critter sure enjoyed its lunch!

Photograph: Rubber Ducky Ahoy!
Nov. 26th, 2006 03:57 pmThis photo was in no way staged by me. I found this rubber ducky bobbing along the shores of the Mississippi River, looking none the worse for wear. I left it there, to bring entertainment to another startled person.
Photograph: Hyenas Play Tag
Nov. 18th, 2006 09:05 pmThey do, you know! These hyenas paused for a round of "I'll chew on your leg" in the middle of playing their version of Fetch/Tag with the stick in the background here. Seen at the Milwaukee Zoo.
Photograph: Bejeweled by Currants
Nov. 8th, 2006 10:16 pm The currant bush in my backyard. When the light hits it in the late afternoon, it really does look like there are jewels hanging from the branches. I saw this on my way out the back gate to take one of my "photo safaris." For a split second, I hesitated to take the photograph because I thought it "wouldn't count."
Then I came to my senses.

Oct. 28th, 2006 10:20 pmTaken in my own backyard. Before you ask, no, I'm not sure what that weird light green thing is to the left of the butterfly.
Another Cherry Branch
Oct. 24th, 2006 01:09 pmAnd the sky's just about that color outside right now....
Giant Dragonfly Spies
Oct. 16th, 2006 10:21 pm I was on my way to the bus stop one morning when I saw this creature resting quite sedately in the center of the sidewalk. You can't tell size very well from this photograph, but he's about four inches long. He's a brilliant green, and there's a creepy eye/eye-shaped coloration on top of his head.
I wondered if he was a spy robot.
Photograph: Shy Flower
Oct. 13th, 2006 10:02 pmTaken at somebody's alley-side garden, during one of my neighborhood photo safaris during the golden hour. I have no idea what the flowers in it are (except for the marigold!), but I love the way this turned out. My favorite photograph of the roll. Really highlights how much better my manual camera is than my automatic, sadly....
Flower Hydrant
Oct. 12th, 2006 11:20 pmI've gotta think that this is violating a regulation somewhere....
What Sort of Day Is It?
Sep. 26th, 2006 10:44 amI hope it's that sort of day. Yesterday was blech. The day before that, though, I stalked a giant green dragonfly, stared into the sun until tears streamed down my cheeks, climbed on top of our Very Steep Roof without dying, and was a passenger on the Extremely Unfortunate Bus.
What sort of day have you been having?
