Photograph: Hyenas Play Tag
Nov. 18th, 2006 09:05 pmThey do, you know! These hyenas paused for a round of "I'll chew on your leg" in the middle of playing their version of Fetch/Tag with the stick in the background here. Seen at the Milwaukee Zoo.
Hyena Play
Aug. 6th, 2006 03:41 pm These hyenas were both quite young, and they seemed to be having the best time of any animal that I saw at the zoo (barring the otters that were, um, "gettin' jiggy wit' it"). There was lots of running around in circles and mock-charges and playing tug-of-war with a branch. They were definitely a crowd favorite. What you can't see here is that one of the alcoves in the rock wall behind them is a small window. This small window is placed down a narrow hall across from the indoor lion enclosure (by accident, I believe). So the lions could see the hyenas playing when they ran past a small window about twenty feet away down a darkened corridor. And one lion in particular was *fascinated*. His eyes followed their every move. He would even get upset and try to see around people if they blocked his view.
At the Milwaukee Zoo.
P.S. Busy.
