It's honest-to-God snowing outside: thick, fluffy flakes nimbly diving between the tree's yellow leaves (hanging on for dear life) and plummeting to the leaf-covered lawn below. Hmm. Well, raking up the leaves is now officially the Mad Scientist's job, as is anything else involving walking, standing, or carrying things with more than one hand.

No, seriously, the roof of the garage is already frosted white.

No work for me today. Last night, Manager #1 told me to call in this morning. Later, I got a cellphone message from Over-Manager, telling me to come in, though I didn't get the message until this morning. So I called Over-Manager, and was told that, no, after all, there wasn't really enough work for me to come in--but I should call in two of my coders to work on an icky microfilm project (which I'm just as happy to not work on--I did so in the beginning, and it was ugh). So I'm up, awake, and around, but with no work. This is fine with me, though it may be "less fine" when I get my paycheck! And since injuring my knee, I've been waking up pretty early all on my own, so it's not like sleeping in was really an option.

The knee is feeling better. The swelling's starting to go down, though there are still squooshy bits, pain, and limited mobility. I'm getting around pretty well with the cane, and I'm even using it correctly (totally counter-intuitive).

In an unrelated note, I propose adopting the following phrase into the English vernacular: "Happy as a squirrel in a gutter full of leaves."

Is anybody hosting an Orphan's Thanksgiving this year?
