Exploded

Poker tonight. New place and a bunch of new people, so it should be interesting. Hopefully I'll have better card luck than last time...and also play a little less tight when I shouldn't. The time before last, when I had just arrived, a car in the parking lot exploded from the inside. It was a hot day; it was a black car.

That day, I learned that that such occurences weren't just an urban myth.

Also, don't throw warm water on your iced up windshield either. That usually happens quite a bit in motel parking lots on winter mornings.

Good to know, now that I have joined the league of those who own cars.

Turns out that the guy who owns the car in question is the very nice Turkish man in our building with no concept of personal space. I think his insurance picked up the tab,

I hope they did. It was just one of those freakish things.

That's really odd. I wonder what the cause for this could be. Cars aren't airtight, so it couldn't be just the pressure from the air inside heating up. I suppose it could be mechanical stress from the car shell expanding from heat, but the fact that windows are installed with flexible seals would seem to rule that out. My best guess would be it was just a one-in-a-million flaw in the glass that happened to fail from the stress of the glass expanding in the heat. And safety glass can't usually have a small failure.

That would have been pretty cool to watch... did you actually see it happen?

Yes, yes I did.

It was startling as hell. We all stood around and went, "What the fuck?" for an extended period of time. Then I took photos, and everyone told me to stop.
