As per our usual habit, we will be having a 4th of July celebration at our house! Begins at noon and runs until--well--usually, around three in the morning, though it might end earlier this year since the next day's a workday for some of us. We'll have some sides and things like hot dogs and beer, but it's a "bring your own meat/main-grilling-thing and bring something alcoholic to share, if you're so inclined" party. There will be a section of the grill set aside for vegetarian-only grilling (unless somebody with a small grill wants to bring it for veggies?).

Yes, you are invited. RSVPs appreciated, but not strictly necessary. Please tell others you think I'd like to know if you think they won't see this. If you want to bring somebody I don't know, ask me, but the answer's probably yes.

One of my friends from oh-so-long-ago is in town visiting his girlfriend (who is in town for the summer). He's a geeky pianist/flutist/musicmaking maniac. She's a busty Asian mechanical engineering student from MIT. Together. . . they may make beautiful babies someday, but they have no idea what they're doing for the fourth. I mentioned it in passing.

Me: I mean, nobody will know you, but they're nice people and after a few forties, who cares?
Nick: You guys drink forties?
Me: It's the Fourth of July, of course there's forties!
Nick: Marry me?
Me: It's mostly a Cam and Phil thing.
Nick: Oh.
Me: Phil's already married. And I doubt Electra would let you marry Cam.
Nick: Oh. Shatter my hopes and dreams why don't you.

So yes, if you're OK with a couple random geeks possibly dropping by for a couple hours, I would love to invite them to come by and meet the locals.

They sound cool. Absolutely bring them (so long as they understand that they have to bring their own forties).
