Instead of going to Cahoots, am staying at home to decompress, try to catch up on email, and get some minimum maintenance stuff done around the house, as this is my one day off a week. That's right, my one day off that I wouldn't even have if I hadn't stood extra-firm and insisted that I needed a day off. Really, I need more like two weeks off, but having an unexpected couple of days off in the middle of the week really helped to restore my sanity. More on that later, I suppose....

[livejournal.com profile] chesh, thanks for the invite to your housewarming party, and your spiced rum is awesome. I like it way too much. I need the recipe. ...Wait, no! I should not have that recipe....

On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] mischief03, I do need the recipe for the hot rum toddies that you had [livejournal.com profile] chesh make, because they were deliciously tasty.

And I should remember that some people do actually like my backrubs, and I should maybe think about volunteering them more often (assuming that isn't the reason that [livejournal.com profile] chesh's back is not feeling so good today).

Also, I was un-hung-over this morning, though I could very much tell that I was drinking yesterday by the shaky need-food-now feeling in my belly. So I fed myself bacon and scrambled eggs and wheat toast with butter and a huge glass of orange juice. I watched PBS cooking shows. Then I napped. And now I'm feeling entirely myself again, reading email and listening to Fatboy Slim. It is raining outside, so the plan to walk around the Very Steep Roof is out for the day.

Tonight, will be going to [livejournal.com profile] chadvalentine's birthday dinner at a Mexican restaurant that I've never been. Then there will be an early-to-bed for me, since I am back to working tomorrow.

In other news, I have been playing around with Google Calendars and enjoying it muchly. More on that later, as well.

No, no, your backrub actually helped quite a bit. It just hates me despite the love you gave it. Which firmly categorizes it as an ungrateful bastard.

Also? The spiced rum is incredibly easy. It's rum, plus (in a liter) a whole buncha cinnamon sticks (maybe a handful -- about 2 bucks worth in the bulk section of the Rainbow Foods at the quarry), a few inches of ginger root (sliced), a few dozen whole cloves, two or three nutmegs (crushed with a hammer so they fit into the bottle), and a splash of vanilla extract. Then you just have to be patient enough to let it steep so that you get spiced rum and not vanilla rum.

Glad to hear I didn't inadvertently cripple you (it's always best to check, I find).

How long do you let it steep?

Heh. I still remember trading backrubs with you one sunny day in front of Kagin. I recall it as being a "good hurt" kind of experience.

More than a couple hours, less than forever? Dunno, really.

While we are leaving recipes:

Hot Buttered Rum

1 qt vanilla icecream
1 lb Brown sugar
1 lb Powerdered sugar
1 lb butter
cinnamon
nutmeg
vanila
more nutmeg for the top

Put ingredients in bowl. Mix. Freeze. When you want to drink it, put about as much goo as you'd put in cocoa powder for hot cocoa in a mug. Pour in a shot of rum and fill the rest of it with hot water. Drink 1, maybe 2 and wait for arteries to clog.
