Words: 273
Total words: 5,211
Overused word: tunnels
Gratuitous language: Hindi
Type of scene: Transit & transition. I need to hurry past these scenes. Though I guess I'm getting useful other info worked in.
Challenge(s): Typing the first word. Once I did that, it was smooth going!
Which line is it anyways? She shook her head. "The tunnels have no numbers or names. Follow a number and you might end up with the sleepers, in an airlock, or in somebody else's kitchen. No way to tell."
Notes: Excuse me, subconscious. Hostile boarders? What? Are you planning on putting pirates into this story? They'd have to try it on a docking station--there's some debate about whether two ships in an Alcubierre tunnel would be able to interact at all, or at least in a less than freakishly disastrous way.
Other writingy stuff:
* Mailed off "The Haunts of Hill Crossing"
* Transferred over my reading lists from 4th Street from that post to my actual reading list.
* Followed up on people from 4th Street (which, lacking context, sounds kinda creepy).
* Posted writing log.
* [livejournal.com profile] penthius freewriting, got to hear from a character that I *really* want to write more of.

Today in the car, Phil said I should be churning out a short story every two weeks. I explained I'd accidentally started another novel. He repeated himself. Part of me thinks he's right. Some 4,000 word suckers.

I don't know you very well, and I definitely don't want to come off as telling you how to run your life or your writing process.

But a short story every fortnight is a fairly unusually high level of productivity. Is there a reason he's picked that number as what you should shoot for?

Izzokay. I'm pretty mule-headed, so that sort of thing is unlikely to derail me. Which is part of why it's okay for Phil to sometimes push me a little.

For rough draft, not so much, maybe? I should be able to get out about 1,000 words a day, though this certainly isn't always the case. Add in a day for plotting, and a day for rough revisions, and it's still pretty reasonable as long as I don't go too far in length. Unfortunately, that is something I'm prone to.

It's not a level of productivity that's beyond reach, though it isn't what I'm at right now.

And if I wasn't writing an accidental novel.

I was less concerned about derailing you than about pissing you off. I really don't enjoy it when people show up in my lj and tell me what I should do, so I try to be really careful about tone so that it doesn't sound like I'm doing that in other people's ljs.

And you're right, a short story every fortnight is high productivity but a lot more usual if you're talking rough draft. But I think there's a reason a lot of people with that level of productivity end up writing accidental novels. :)

Ah, no fear.

And I'll try and remember that about you, though I am of the "There's a problem? Must fix!" category of people.

I'm used to dealing with engineer-brain -- most of my friends and loved ones have it, to say nothing of my wider social circle -- but some expressions of it are easier for me to deal with than others.
