Wiscon?

Yikes! Wiscon is so soon. I'm hitching a ride up this Thursday, and that's so soon! But I still have to start (and finish) all my writer's group crits!* And I need to figure out what's going on with this fancy dress ball! And figure out what panels I'm going to! And pack! And figure out if anyone and if so who on my friendslist is going to be there for the purposes of hanging out!

People who've gone to WisCon previously--any words of wisdom? What should I try to do while I'm there? What should I try not to do?

I'm also miserably failing in finishing the revisions to Vicesteed before convention season started, but...I should still get it done before knee surgery season, I think.

* And I think my work downtime is about to evaporate for several weeks, which will make this all more complicated.

Try not to miss the Gathering. Or the farmers' market, Saturday morning. Or the fabulous bookshops within walking distance. But it's tough. Two years ago, I think I left the hotel twice the entire weekend.

Most of all, enjoy!

Thanks for the advice! I was silly enough to think I could get through the Gathering in, oh, less than an hour--I ended up only managing to bead my nametag, tilt a cow, and glance at everything else.

Aww, enjoy. I'm thinking next year for me.

The farmer's market is definitely worth seeing.

I've met a woman down here who is working on her masters in creative writing -- her project involves writing about bisexuals in space, and I'm working my way through it right now. She went to Wiscon last year and enjoyed it, but I haven't really heard whether she has plans to go this year or not. I can ask about her plans if you're interested in meeting her or need a roommate.

The farmer's market was almost more of a flea market! Certainly not the mostly food-and-plants-only ones I'm used to from the Twin Cities.

I already had the roomsplit figured out, but (belated) thanks for the offer.

*wave* I will be doing a whirlwind thing, coming in Saturday morningish and leaving Sunday morningish. Which is no kinda way to go to a con, but I can't have so many friends a mere 3 hours from home and not run up to see people.

No idea yet which panels I'm going to, or what activities, etc, but I hope to see you there!

Sorry I missed you! I thought it would be way easier to just naturally see people than it was. When I glimpsed people I knew, it was always just in passing when I was on the way to a panel. Note to self: Next time, make plans because you may never see that person for the rest of the weekend--lunches and dinners should probably always be social.

The deal with the fancy dress is a bunch of people performing their femininity in a space where the male gaze is detoxified by the overall safety of being in a crowd of women. It's astonishing and amazing, and I love it.

I wish I'd ended up hanging out with you more! Also, some of the dresses were really gorgeous. I had an acute case of costume-envy.
