  • Fu Manchu has the rapt attention of the cats in the house. They follow him around--just to make sure he's not sneaking up on them.

Reasons that today was a good day:
*St. Patrick's Day! I love silly holidays. To observe it, I wore 10 green things.
* Shirt.woot.com had a "buy a bag of random shirt" sale. So I did. And now I can expect a random limited-design-run shirt in my size to show up in the mail in a few days.
* I mailed off the registration form for the CSA to the farm we chose. I'll get my first box of mystery produce on April May 8th, and I get bouncy-hyper with anticipation just thinking about it.
* I managed to finish off the last bit of work at my day job before I left, which means I won't have to go in to work tomorrow!
* Today was the first day that after working and commuting, my knee didn't bother me so much that I took a heavy-duty painkiller as soon as I walked in the door. This is a major improvement.
* New episode of How I Met Your Mother tonight! Funny!
*No AKs were involved.

I'm really quite fond of randomness! And receiving mystery packages! Which is why this is so cool (bonus points for the whole "experimenting with alternate revenue streams" idea), and I'm quite sad I don't have a hundred dollars to spare to sign up for a year. I can't really spare $10 just now for one month's delivery, either, but I'm super-tempted to go ahead and spend it anyway.

On [livejournal.com profile] pegkerr's request. I swear, when I get busy, suddenly my posts are reduced to photographs, writing logs that are mostly unpopulated, and the reposting of comments that I've made elsewhere but then decided to share more widely.

Things that make me feel cozy in the Fall:
* Flannel sheets on the bed
* Burning vanilla, spice, or apple pie-scented jar candles
* Staring up at orange leaves and bright blue skies
* Being able to bake without hating the heat--and taking full advantage of that!
* Hot chocolate
* The cats becoming all cuddly again--they don't stay sitting long on the laps of people who wear shorts
* Wearing flattering sweaters
* Coming home to a slightly chilly house, turning the heat on, and feeling it warm up gradually
* When sitting at the computer, wearing slippers with microwaveable grain bag inserts that smell like spices and keep my feet toasty-warm
* Curling up on couch under blanket and just reading a book for an hour or two
* Tucking my feet under the legs of whoever is sitting beside me on a couch. Um. Everybody else is probably cranky about this one, but it really makes me happy. And warm-footed.

What things make you feel cozy in Fall? Post it to your journal! Let's get a whole seasonal lovefest thing going on.

Yay! "Blood for Oil" has been accepted by Allegory Magazine, formerly known as Peridot Books, and will be published in their September issue (yes, I will link to it again then). Their submissions process is unusual--they only accept submissions for the next issue, so there's a relatively short time between acceptance and publication. It took them about a month longer than their stated response times to answer, but that's entirely understandable, as they're going through a transition right now.

"Blood for Oil" is a short story about an oil company executive charged with finding new energy resources who finds one that has less to do with science and more to do with black magic. Continuing the pattern of which of my stories get published, it's straight-up horror with an environmental twist and a conspiracy-theory kicker.

And when it's published, you must all go there and read it and send letters to the editor along the lines of, "You should buy everything this writer ever offers you, because she is brilliant. Also, you should give her lots of money so she never has to do honest work again."

It's worth a try.

I wonder if it's professional to respond in a squeeing, slobbering with joy, "You love me! I love you because you love me!" fashion to the editor? Hmm. Probably not. Particularly the slobbering. Best to keep elation under wraps until returning contracts and bio and whatnot, and even then to express it in a more professional manner.

And now...to the updating of my various and sundry profiles and biographies and cover letters, oh my!
